Ugly steering

I joined the group at the right time.Discussion on Ride and Handling is just what I needed.Power steering is aready on my 58.Kind unknown.Steering gear was moved to the front of my frame with several u joints.Guess I need to start there.I'm going to use the Toyoto steering. Steering colomn is not original either. Need to know what length column is needed for 58.

Guess what I really need is what salvage yard tilt column will work best.

Not sure about the 58, but BonusBuilt.com suggests a late 70s chevy van column 35" in length for the 51 F1 model. Let me know what kind of prices you get for the Toyota steering box. I priced a power and a manual last week and they want $100.00 for the power and $50.00 for the manual unit.

fuzzy could you send my a picture of your "ugly steering"box I have a 60 4x4 and I was going to put a seering box in front of the axle because of header and clutch interferance.

What front suspension are you running? Why was the original box changed? before you change to the Toyota box be sure it's going to work properly with the rest of your suspension geometry. Glad you found the R&H topic informative.
