Leaf Springs????

Hello,
I am new to this site and to be honest I dont even have a truck, BUT my sister does so here is my question... Are leaf springs supposed to be sitting flush on top one another or is it ok for them to be uneven meaning the bottom one is/has slide out about a half inch in the back? Thanks in advance for all the help and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I assume you mean the pack has splayed out a bit. Normally, they are in line, and are held in line by some form of clamp. It sounds as though the clamps may be gone. If you look at the springs, there should be a u-shaped metal piece that is bolted or riveted to a bottom spring, that wraps up around the sides of the springs. It may be bent around the top of the springs as well, or it may have a bolt through the top of it. If that is missing, you may want to consider replacing it.

There won't really be any harm from 1/2" of misalignment in the springs, but if it gets worse, you could experience problems (bent springs if you add a load, springs can hit the tires, shocks, brake lines, etc.). You should probably be able to realign them by taking the weight off of the springs (jack up the truck frame) and tapping them back into line with a mini-sledge.
