Hello, have a question for you guys. I know of a 79 bronco 4x4 with a 351w and an auto trans for sale and was curious if it might be a good deal. It has been sitting for sale for about 2 years so I called the guy tonight: it has about 130k miles with the engine rebuilt at 106k, the tranny leaks pretty bad(seal) and the gas tank leaks if you fill it up all the way. He claims the 4x4 works, brakes, etc. are all fine. The body is pretty rusted(typ. of old fords). I have tried the old beater vehicle thing before and was burned badly. Do you guys think this would be a worthwhile rig(winter driving/hunting rig) or should I stay away? Oh, it looks like newer tires on it and it hasn't been run in at least 9 monthes. The guy says he wants $500 for it. Any opinions welcome, thanks.

I'd jump on it. That sounds like a real deal, if the body isn't too rusty, and you want it for hunting and a winter beater. By the way, it's probably a 351M instead of a Windsor. The leaky trans (C6) is probably the front pump seal. Not hard to replace, but the trans has to be dropped. That's probably why it was parked.......?
The leaky (when full) tank may be simply a rotted filler hose. If so, that's also an easy fix.

i'd jump on it tooo. i got my almost the same way, minus the leaks. sat for a year paid 700. body looked horrible. still kinda does. brakes lines rotted( he fixed, safety issue leaving property)only put minor funds into. the loneranger is right about the engine, it is a 351M unless the prior owner put a different engine in when he rebuilt it. the C6 is a strong tranny. Check the filler tube on the fuel tank. Good luck
