What master cylinder can I use that will clear my tall valve covers? The 11" booster off of the '79 is hitting them. And does anyone know of a shorty header that will clear the power steering box on my '66 F-100 390? Bolt pattern does not matter 'cause my heads are set up to take any of them. Do CJ manifolds flow as good a headers and will they clear everything?
Hey Mike I ran into that with my '66. I think the 70's F series used a bracket/linkage assembly that raised the booster to miss the valve covers. You need to look at a wrecking yard for the booster still hooked to the firewall and check out the system. I hope I am remembering correctly.
CJ manifolds do not flow as well as headers although they are better than the stock pickup manifolds. Which power steering gear box do you have? Reread post-shorty headers are probably equivalent to the CJ manifolds, but I don't know about clearance.
they are hitting the proportioning valve mounted on the back of the crossmember. There is 5 lines and a pressure switch on it and I did not want to have to make all new lines. I might be able to take all of the clamps loose and bend it under the crossmember. All of my brake and steering parts came off of a '79 and I swapped pedal and everything. I had to get a different pump to mount to the FE. I was wanting shortys to make it easier to get them in and out. There is not very much room in the tunnel to lift up that C-6, and the drivers side won't ever get the mount out of the perch. I was thinking of the logs for a better seal 'cause my headers start leaking after about 5,000 miles. Someone here mentioned a small booster a while back that they got from a junk yard that fit pretty good. I don't know how tall my covers are compared to others, but they are tha M/T cast aluminum covers.
Do you have a bigger pic of your dash? It looks pretty good.
