I am looking for a brand new motorcraft carberator for my 1977 F-250 4x4 4-speed 351M. I have been looking everywhere. Anybody know where I can find one in the box. This has been a very aggrevating search.
its my personal opinion, but, motorcrafts arent worth the money, your better off getting a holley, most motorcrafts are rebuilt by holley anyways, if you have a 2bbl get the 380 cfm, i put a 500cfm 2bbl avenger series on my 78 F-250 351m, it works great, but is a touch too big, the 380 would be ideal....i have had nothing but bad experiences with motorcrafts and have a bad taste for them, i have had only good luck with the holleys on all 3 of my fords.....my 3 cents..
I second the Holley praise... Motorcrafts are ok, but I have had more problems with them than Holleys. I have a Motorcraft on my shelf right now that has some kind of internal vacume problem, I have no torn it apart to figure it out yet.
im not certain on the model numbers off hand, im not around my truck this week so i cant go out and look...there are only two different 2bbl holleys though, the 380cfm and 500cfm versions.......either will work but like i said the 500cfm 2bbl is a little too big for my stock 351m, but it leaves me leeway for engine mods.....so i can redo the heads and cam and keep my shiney new 500cfm avenger...it looks like a diamond in a goats butt on my dirty old engine but i love it anyways.....
If you want a really good motorcaft carb give www.ponycarburetors.com a call or e-mail. They can remanufacture the carb to better than new for a better price than you think. If it came on a Ford they have it GREGM
I guess I have the same distaste for hollys and edelbrock that you have for motorcraft. If I could find a GOOD Holley that might be different. I have replace all the Holleys I have ever goten for an 1988 Ford F-150. And it still isn't right. I guess if I cannot find origonal equipment for my truck I will go witha rebuilt carb from motorcraft.
From a few things I've seen a Holley 500cfm will work great for a small block Ford if you jet it a bit smaller. Holley markets it as a "performance" 2bbl carb and jets it big.
Another post I saw said something abotu a 64 jet for his stock 302.
