water pump removal?
The oem manual says to use ford "xyz" tools that I don't have. Is there any other way to remove the fan/clutch assy?
There appears to be a 1.5" nut to hold and turn but what do I hold and turn from there?
If I turn the 1.5" nut, all of the pulleys turn. The oem says it's a left hand turn but either way everything is turning.
Any suggestions? (97f150 4.6 auto 4x4)
Some parts stores will lend you the special tools.
Usually I just leave the belt on to keep the pump from turning easily and hit the wrench with a hammer to break the nut loose. It usually works ok.
I'm pretty sure it should be right hand thread so you need to turn the nut counterclockwise.
I had to use the autozone tool to brace the pulley from turning, and it does have right hand threads.....the oem manual says "left". Ford trying to save money again and made a one piece fan shroud that caused a lot of disassembly problems.....two piece would have been better for me but more expensive to make and assemble for them.
I also caused a small hole in the rad while removing the fan clutch.......fixed it for $20.
Had to use a hammer to remove the waterpump.....it was really stuck.
