360 swap

well you probably remeber a few weeks ago i was asking about putting a 360 from a 72 f250 into my 82 f150. i didn't take any of your advice on it since it was all not to do it. the swap was very easy i just had to lift the motor up about an inch to clear the pan. i took it out wheeling over the wwekend and it was great. the motor runs excellent and has plenty of power for my truck compared to the 300 inline 6 that it replaced. ill get some pictures up so you can take a look

You know 82, you might want to document what all you did to shoehorn that beast in, since I'm sure that someone around here has an old 427 side-oiler (since they share the same engine mount placement) just waitin to go into their 80's truck.
Good for you for going against the grain. Nuthin beats free, even if it does take a little, shall we say, ingenuity...

427 side oiler would be ok but if I could just find a SOHC and put that into my truck then I would be happy, and used the same mounts as the 360 too.

actually it was very easy to do, i did have to relocate my oil filter because it wouldn't clear the crossmemebr. that was easy enough with a kit. i used the stock rubber mounts that go onto the block of the 360 and built 2 3/4 inch aluminum spacers to put in between there and the crossmemeber since the pan on the 360 was a bit deeper, i raised the tranny and t case to compensate, i used the np435 that was already in the truck. i also had to cut the fender well on the passenger side to get the hedder to fit. i did allof this with only hand tools and a die grinder. not to brag or any thing but im only 17 ill be 18 next month but im not sure of many 17 year olds that are doing stuff like this. im going to get some pics up in the next few days

cool- glad that it all fit for you. I don't know of anybody, except you, that did the swap. That is why we didn't have any info to offer you. Now we do, thanx to you.

did you have to cut a hole in the crossmember, or did it bolt into the stock holes with the spacer?

Since you raised the engine at the engine mounts, did you raise the transfer case also? If not, then you probably do not have transmission output shaft and pinion angles that agree. Don't expect long u-joint life.

Good luck,
Doc
