Post Rear end

I have a 86 f-150 I-6 4x2 auto. Looking to swap out the rearend with something that will bolt right up & get better fuel mileage. 13mpg now
with the small tank is no fun. Thank you in advance J.R.

Welcome to FTE J.R.

First, being that my truck used to have the I-6.....13 mpg aint that bad. But to help you we need some more info. Do you know what your rear end gears are now? Which rear end do you have.....a 9 inch or the 8.8? You can find the axle code on the vehicle ID tag on the driver's door frame. If you don't have an owners manual post the code here and we'll translate it. There also should be a tag on the rear end with the gearing stated. You can tell a 9 inch rear from an 8.8 by looking at it from the back. An 8.8 will have a cover on the back of it held on by bolts, a 9 inch has no cover on the back.
