Thanks guys for all the input on why my 99sd was missing, it was
good stuff. Well today I found out why....it blew a spark plug with
coil attached out of the head, stripped the threads..luckly nothing
went into the hole(wow made an awful racket) so anyone out ther
in ford land had to install heli-coils???? how about with the head
still on ???? yes it is a deep deep hole....any & all help, advice or
just opinions appreciated....rh
Why yes, I have installed Heli-Coils with the head(s) on!! I have a small vac and attached a small flexible hose to the vac hose with duct tape to vac out the cylider as well as a bit of compressed air in the cylinder.
I also let the starter turn the engine a couple of revolutions by just"bumping" the ignition switch.
Other than newer heads, I think the ultimate repair is the one offered as the "time-sert" if I remember correctly.
Yes. I've blown one plug from both heads (2000 SD V10) I have a complaint with the NHTSA as well.
