Hey guys I've got an 88 that I have an intermittent window problem. The problem is that the passenger side window will not operate from either the drivers side or passenger side switch. This has happend a couple times over several years. I've replaced switches and motors in this truck several times but this switch seems to be one of the newer ones. This time it has been a come and go thing and I can't seem to figure out why. Its not a time to time thing it seems to be more a day to day or week to week thing. By that I mean it won't work for a week or a month and then its working again.
I am pretty good with electrical problems as I am an electrician but I'm stumped as to why it would come and go and is in both switches. I haven't seen any shorts but when i do depress the switch (when the window isn't working) I can see the load in the dash voltmeter.
Chances are if the passenger side fails the driver's side will quit working as well, since the wiring is daisy chained through the passenger side across to the driver's side. Check the wiring TO the passenger side switch for problems.
Hey the window has stopped working now from both switches. I am going to check the wiring and continuity but I was wondering what the actuator is. I've read a couple posts about chaging the actuator and wanted to know where and what it is. I don't know if that is another way of saying the switch but I don't think so cause the switch is cake to change and someone said it was tough to do.
I also have a problem with the rear window. The motor and switches are fine but the gear is slipping again. I've rebuilt it before but was wondering if there was a better way to do it beside buying the rebuild kit. Those plastic parts seem to fail. I know its been beaten to death but I figure maybe kill two birds with one stone.
