Hi and thanks to anyone looking. I have a 88 Bronco II with a 2.9L V-6. It's only two wheel drive. I'm having problems with my auto trans. It shifts late in third and fourth, and then usually when I'm not accelerating. Most of the time I have to let my foot up off the gas for it to change. I had to take the trans out when I worked on the motor. I've been messing with the linkage ever since, it just doesn't do the right thing. Now I need a little help here cause I'm lost. When I get all of my forward moving gears to work reasonable well, (by adjusting linkage) I do not have reverse. When I have reverse the dang thing won't shift into third or fourth. What may I be overlooking? Fluid level is fine, and fresh too. This is my second tranny too. Is there another tranny I can swap to, like say a 4R55E? Will it just bolt up? Any info would help.
the 4r55e is just an electric controlled version of the A4LD in order for you to install that newer a4ld you would need something to emulate the valve body changes .
get your self a atsg manual for the a4ld so you have an idea of what changes have been made your best bet if you want to change to a newer trans get yourself one from a 4.0 explorer/ranger or aerostar.

Sir Monty06, I looked into a trans from a 4.0 Explorer... it was only two wheel drive. Can I just change out the tail cone of that one and install the tailcone and dummy transfercase from my old to my new? Do you know if that would work?
Ha Ha, Thank you!... I need this car as a regular vehicle. Until I get another car, I will have to keep it that way. Then I can whomp on the dang thing and still be happy+ Good luck with you're stalling thing. I'd lend advice but you've done what I would, with maybe the exception of running down vacuum leaks.
