Alright, I know that this topic has already been broached several times, but it seems that each time the window is successfully lowered by jumping the motor. Well, my motor is blown and I can't seem to get it down to replace it. The Haynes manual mentions a safety lock tab in the bottom center of the tailgate but i can't locate it. I'm getting a little frustrated, so I'm asking you guys for help.
The tab the Haynes manual refers to is the safety release for the latches. What they neglect to tell you is that if the window is fully up, and wont' roll down, the tailgate still won't open because the window is still up in the channel on the top and won't allow the gate to swing down. You can remove the motor assembly from the regulator which will allow you to pull the window down by hand. Watch your fingers with this operation though. The regulator can slip without the motor in place and the window can slide down unassisted. Better safe than sorry, have someone keep a hand on the window while you remove the motor and gearhead assembly. Once the motor and gear are free of the regulator, you can slide the window down until it presses the release tab and then the tailgate will open so you can finish the project with the gate down.
I'm having the opposite problem. My window is down and I need to know how to get it up to replace motor. I've tried everything I can think of, but cant get to the motor.
Remove the bolts that hold the tracks to the window. (or they might be rivets you have to drill out.) Then you can take the glass completely out by hand. I'll check to see if I have a picture of what I'm talking about...
