I realize this is a tiresome subject for some. An awful lot has been written, but as far as I can tell there is no single answer and no single cause to the vibration problem in 2004 F-150s, because apparently there are a number of possible flaws. Let me say up front -- the Ford dealership people have been really cordial and have genuinely tried to alleviate my vibration problem. The tires have been balanced, rebalanced, road force tested and replaced. The steps outlined in TSB 04-25-07 and TSB 04-25-08 have been followed, meaning a frame dampener, body mount kit, new driveshaft, and ring and pinion were installed. The invoive says, "Contacted Ford hotline and they instructed us if the ride feel is similar to other like trucks to consider the buzz as a normal characteristic of the truck at this time." (By buzz they mean vibration). The cynical response to that is why do all that expensive warrenty work if the vibration is a normal characteristic of the truck? Some say, after all, it is just a truck. My two previous F-150s ran as smooth as - as they used to say - a country Cadillac. I did write to William Clay Ford, Jr. to express my disappointment. I hate to think of the inevitable hassle associated with the DSB and Lemon Law. And, I hate to think of vibrating along the next 100,000 miles. Guess I'll wait awhile and see...
The key is to have a dealership that understands this problem. After a year long battle on this issue, I finally won with the DSB, however, it was so frustrating I will not buy another F150 with my refund. I will however stay with Ford, but upgrade to a F250. My opinion.....they blew it on this model. All my other F150s were great. The vibrations, shakes, and shimmys are quite amazing. Never had so much trouble putting tires on a truck in my life! Why? Because it's not the tires! I'm sure there will be others who will agree with me over time. After the honeymoon wears off, you start to notice she's not what you thought you were getting. The smoke and mirrors work great at first though....
Just my 2 cents, but I have drove some that are better than others.
