Post Torque Converter

I have an early 99 PS with 130,000 miles. It has had a loud rattle noise at idle for 100,000 miles. Yea, 100,000 miles! It shifts fine, but has gottin louder. I am ready to have the torque converter replaced. Is a factory converter ok to put back in? or can you recommend a better aftermarket one? What I can really use is a mechanic reference!! Any GOOD mechanics in the Orange County, CA area? Any suggestions are appreciated.

John

The '99 is a double disc T/C, which makes a lot of noise compared to the later models that have a single disc. There is probably nothing wrong with your T/C, but many people don't like the noise. If you do replace, I would reccommend going with an aftermarket one that is stronger than stock. The T/C and transmission is the weak link on these trucks, so anything you can do to improve it will only make it better.

Thanks farmbOy, thats the first time I've heard the double disc difference. I feel not so rushed to change this T/C out. I can live with the noise, heck it's been 5 years, why cry now?

When I bought mine with 140,00 on it I could hear the same noise in it when I test drove it but bought it anyhow because they gave me a 5,000 mile warranty with it. So I took it straight to my local dealership and had it replaced. They said it was deffinately bad. I agree because It hasn't made an abnoxiously embarrasing noise since.
