"bumpin at 40mph".........

i have a stock 150 w/5sp stick.....and when she is a little cold in the mornings, driving at 40~45mph in traffic, she will bump and surge. is this typical of a ford stick? i can ether downshift to 3rd and keep the RPM's up, or accel/deccel constantly to keep her from doing this.....the mechanic cleaned "something" out under the hood....but she still does it.......any idea's from you fellows?

thanks!
