Why is there no way to manually unlock the passenger door from outside with the key on the 2004 XLT? Does the XL or STX that dosen't have the remote have a keyhole? Does the lariat have a keyhole? What if all you had was a key and you had to get in that side in a hurry because a rabid dog was after you or something? What does a tumbler cost to make? $100 tops? If Ford broke even on the profit of that one part during assembly I would have paid a little extra for the door to have a keyhole. There isn't a keyhole on the passenger door but there is one on the tailgate? That is crazy.
cbsaf - That's not just crazy.. It drives me crazy.. Oh well you have to love Ford..We'll just have to add the no key lock with the no glove box or underhood lights..
My '04 XLT regular cab has key holes on both sides. I think that it has something to do with what kind of cab you have and also if you have the drivers side keyless pad. My truck was job 1 built 9/03. Maybe on the job 2 trucks built after 1/04 they cut costs and stopped putting in the passenger keylock?
My Lariat Super Cab has no key hole on the passenger side. Only on the drivers along with the touch pad and keyless entry fob. It was built in Feb /04. I like that locking tailgate, keeps it from getting legs and walking away!
IMO - Why put the key hole on the passenger side if you have a remote to unlock the truck? I've had my Lariat for over a year now and have never put the key in the drivers side door. It's a waist to have one and I'm happy without it.

It is just the principle of the thing. I paid almost $30,000 for a truck and I can't unlock the passenger door with my key? What if you lose your remotes and like I said earlier you have to get in that side and it is locked? My keyring is big enough without a entry remote for the Taurus and my F150. It dosen't fit in my pocket. should I carry a darned purse to hold all these keys and remotes? What if I just want to use the key? Would anyone really notice if their truck was $50 more? Why not save money that has no use instead like pinstriping, a badge or two, or the fancy F150 on the top of the windsheild? That can't be just a solid strip of tint?
I think there should be a key hole on the passanger side of all Fords. My FX4 supercab does not have one Thats just cheap. Its not just the 04 trucks my 04 Explorer has no passanger side key hole either.
I think GM started that 'fad.' my 04 XLT extended cab has the passenger key hole. It baffles me that Ford would mix and match depending on cab length/trim level. Maybe it was one of those "whatever part the guys at Norfolk picked out of the bin when your truck rolled by."
cbsaf I totally agree with you. Rabid dog scenario not withstanding, I never use those stupd remote thingies. If I'm too lazy to open the door manually, whats next? Have someone else drive for me? Besides, from a social standpoint, its smoother to be able to open the door for the ladies.
2005 XL, Work Truck package, no power locks, no remote key, no keypad on driver's side, build date 10/04.
I think I also first noted this on a rental Pontiac.
While it is the principle of the thing...for it to matter, your remote would have to fail at the same time as the driver's side lock.
Looking at my last two trucks, a lot of things are gone which were in my older trucks. Dual gas tanks. Vent windows. The glove box, ashtray, and underhood lights. The tool box option in the engine compartment from my 1980. It's all part of building them faster and cheaper, and making the options list shorter to make manufacturing less complex.
if some can find out why, please let me know. vw has been with out since 02. i to would also rather have 2 key locks just incase 1 is frozen and the battery is dead
