I'm looking to replace my stock tires on my 2004 F350 supercrew with 285/75/16 and I want a good MT tire. The only one I can find that I like and is "E" rated is the SS TrXus MT. I had one dealer refuse to put anything on my truck less than a "E" rated, they didn't want to be liable. I wanted the kumho 285 MT. Is there any other 285's that are "E" rated? I have enogh room for 305's (3 inch leveling kit) but i don't want to change out the wheel.
If you read the sidewall of most 285 "D" rated tires. they hold the same weight as the 265 "E" rated tires. I have put 285/75-16/D tires on your type of truck with no problems. Is the dealer that would not sell you the tires a "CLUB". IE...cosco,sam's. I have been in the tire busines for over 7 years and have put hundreds of sets on the super dutys.
You could look into the toyo open country mt. Their site list them to be avaible in the first quarter, and the top right side of the page has a yaer 2003 date on it , so you could check their site they have a dealer locater on it and find a dealer near you and ask if they make it yet and if it`s a e load. E loads are harder to find in mud tires. Good luck!
I don't want to mention names but they are a large tire distributor. My truck came stock with BFG's 3415lbs and they say they could not replace them with anything less because they would be liable. Just want to make sure I have the right rated tire when I replace them, I pull about 6 to 7 thousand lbs. (my wife's horses), so I want to make sure I have the right tire. I have looked at the toyo's but they are not out yet, that I can find.
If you really want to buy them there, you could take the wheels off and bring them down. I did that a few years ago with another truck. That shop wouldn't even put on a different size, let alone weight rating.
Too many sue happy idiots ruining it for the rest of us.
Check out the Nitto Terra grappler at www.nittotire.com. I am to looking for some new shoes for my truck. they show weight ratings, by the weights, almost all if not all sizes are e rated.
I looked at the Nitto but I don't want to run 35's because they'll rub unless I lift it more, I don't see any 285 MT on their web site that are above 3305lbs.
Carefull how you describe just the "weight" characteristics between "D" and "E" rated tires.... It is a little more complex decision and there are real reasons to only use the "E" 10 ply side wall (or equivalent based on manufacture) over the "D" rated 8 ply side wall (or manufacture equivalent)
These are big honking trucks and if you do any serious mountain twist and turn hauling with 5th wheel or slid in camper then you need the added sidewall strength as well as the weight load capacity.
The reason I called out the "or manufactures equivalent" is that many modern designs do not really have that many plys but are "rated" as equivalent to 8 or 10 ply designs of days gone by.
My point is that an "E" rated with 3608lbs @ 80 PSI is not the same as a "D" rated with 3475 @ 75PSI even though they are very close in load carring capacity.
If you NEVER load the truck to GVWR capacities then it really doesn't matter.
