Replacement stereo knobs??

Replacement stereo *****??
Just got a 2002 F-150 4x4 Lariat and the factory stereo is missing the On/Off/Volume ****. I went to the local Ford dealership and was told that I would have to take the stereo out to get a number off of it. Please tell me that it's easier than that and there is somewhere to buy the part based on model or VIN or something. Or maybe a website that has generic replacement parts?
BTW It is operational with the metal D shaped stud sticking out.

I checked Autozone and Advance and they dont have it. I'm gonna try a few more stereo install shops and hope to find something soon. If not, it may just be a reason for me to tell my wife that I need a new stereo!
