Can you make a 1 ton Excursion by installing a Superduty 1 ton pickup springs and shocks?
I am planning a lift anyway and I was wondering if I ordered the lift kit for a 1 ton Superduty pickup and put it instead on my Excursion, if that would make it a 1 ton Excursion.
What's the deal with 1 ton vs 3/4 ton...I was under the impression the Ex was
a 1 ton till I came here and found out different!
the only difference from a f250 and an f350 is the 350 has 4 inch blocks under the rear springs and the 250 has 2 inch blocks. so if you ordered a lift kit for a 350 you might be a little low in the back. i would order the kit for the truck you have

Do you mean that a 2wd or 4wd F350 sits 4" higher than the F250. I've never heard that before. I have heard that the only diff is thicker rear springs and the badging on the F350.
The differences between an F250 & F350 have been outlined about 6000 times in as many threads in the Super Duty forum.
As far as the 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton moniker...well it is a bit outdated. used to be trucks actually had that as a carrying capacity! Hence, the name.
Today it just ain't true. And as far as labelling the Excursion (or Suburban) that way...well even that isn't correct. SUVs were never described by those terms.
In general terms the Excurion's GVWR is around 8900lbs and an F250s is around 8800lbs. So maybe the Excursion is really a 3/4+100 ton??
Get whatever lift is specified for your Excursion. Or get the old springs from an 250350 lift. (Forget the stock shocks...junk) You'll get about a 2-3 lift (depending on front spring code, probably score a great deal but you'll not increase you GVWR a bit.
I agree with most of your post but the Suburban, especially back in its early days, was commonly described as either 1/2 or 3/4 ton. As with pickup trucks, this had nothing much to do with it's load carrying capacity. Not sure about these days, but I'm pretty sure that they're offered in at least two load ranges. Admittedly, those ranges don't refer to 1/2 or 3/4 ton capacity.

no, 2 inches higher f250 2 inch blocks, f350 4 inch blocks CLICK HERE for more info
In years past, the F350 had different (heavier duty) brakes than the F250. I do not know if that's still the case in the SD line-up. Making a vehicle a "1-ton" is not just suspension parts. It's like tow ratings ... includes engine, gear ratio, suspension, and brake capacities/capabilities.

Very true. I shoulda put a disclaimer in my post about it. Good catch.
The advertising on this sight is becoming obnoxious. Ads in the entire periphery of each thread?......OK. Ads in the threads themselves? Give me a break.
psdwanabe,
Well I don't know how your post got in this forum, it should have been put in the User Feedback forum. But...
