I think I have a mess on my hands. I have an 82 f150 4x4 that had the 300-6 in it (seized up). I bought what I thought was a 351W out of a Bronco that had an AT. Now when we try to fit the bellhousing on the V8 it does not fit beccause the top 2 bolts are wider than the bellhousing bolt holes. I am told this is the 351M or 400 engine and that I may not be able to find a bellhousing for it. Can I use a 460 bellhousing? How hard are they to find? Then, if I get the bellhousing will the HD 4 speed that is in the truck bolt up?
I don't really want to think about this but would it be bettter to get the AT from the Bronco and put that in the F150? That almost seems like more of a headache.
Help please, I would like to get this swap done within a couple of weeks and everythign is aon the floor now.
I would stop and look for a 351w. If you got the 351m almost for free, well then I would go back and get the tranny cheap too. I wouldn't go to alot of trouble and money to swap the 351m into it.
This motor is supposed to have been a rebuilt long block with low mileage. It has the Edelbrock Perfomer 400 intake and an Edelbrock 4 barrel.
Can you tell me if the 460 bellhousing will bolt up and if that will bolt up to the exisitng tranny? I am not too wild about trying to fit the automaitc in the truck.
the 460 bell will bolt to a 351m. it will bolt to your tranny if it is a standard tranny. you will need to get a flywheel that will fit your engine with the proper balance. the 300 flywheel will fit, but it will vibrate like the dickens.
