'84 Ford F-250: I noticed that with the little hose that comes out of the air pump, there is a junction in it with hoses that lead out and go on to various places, but the main little hose goes on and has an open end. Is it supposed to be plugged into anything?
Also, I figured out what my rattling noise is. The plate that has the hot-air return back into the air intake (into the choke) is all rusted and falling apart. As a matter of fact, the hose that goes from the exhaust back into the air intake is not even attached. It's sitting next to the battery. Since I don't plan on driving this rig in the winter, I don't think it's necessary to fix is it?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Aug-02 AT 09:20 AM (EST)]from the air pump, the rubber hose goes about a foot and a half then connects to the air bypass valve. there should be a small rubber hose coming off the top of the valve that goes to a vac source. The metal pipe from the bottom of the valve goes to the cat. the rubber hose from the side of the valve goes behind the engine into the heads.

on my truck(which is the same as yours) i got rid of the hot air intake, my metal plate by the manifold rusted outand the temp sensor by the carb rusted shut, so i disconnected it, it will be cold in a couple months so i will find out if it was a good idea to get rid of it.
