I Recently Had A Trans Service In My 01' F150 With The 4r70w Trans. After The Service I Drove Home (2 Blocks) And Checked The Fluid. The Fluid Was Approx. 1 Inch Above The Hot Full Line. I Took It Back To The Shop And Told Them It Was Overfilled. They Told Me That They Checked It Again And It Was Fine. Is There Something That Im Missing Here??? This Is Cold Fluid And It's Way Too High. It Only Seems To Reason That It Will Only Expand With Temp And Climb Farther Up The Stick. Should I Suck Some Out????
Yes, too much fluid is bad. Do you have a trannie cooler? You could disconnect one line to the cooler and drain a little fluid into a bucket with a helper to start/stop motor. ...Terry
I Checked It With The Engine Warm, But I Only Drove It Around The Block. At That Point It Was 1" Over The Hot Fill Line. 2 Questions: The Dipstick I Have Has A White Plastic Crosshatched Area Instead Of Metal. It It The Right Stick? And, What Is The Correct Amount Od Quarts For A Standard Pan Drain And Refill. Again, 01' F150 Screw 4x4 5.4l 4r70w. Thanks Again.
The 4R70W transmission system holds about 14 quarts of ATF. The 4R70W uses MERCON V, and the MERCON V can be used on older 4R70W transmissions that were factory filled with MERCON.
but that's the entire system......and overkill-f1 is very correct, too much tranny fluid in the transmission will cause the fluid inside the transmission to foam, and foam doesn't lubricate, nor does it offer any cooling properties, and as we all know.....heat kills automatic trannies, hope you get it squared away
