So, I think I'm going to have to pull the drums off my truck to free up or replace the parking brake cables. My question is how hard is it? It's a full floating rear end in an 8800gvw f-250. Do I need to pull the axles out before the drums will come off? Not looking forward to this project during a new england winter.
The full floaters (ford axle) on the single rear wheel trucks allow you to remove the brake drums without pulling the axle. I'm assuming that your axle is the same as the one on my '95 F-250.
You will have to remove the wheels and back off the star wheel brake adjuster and the drums should come off with only the usual amount of effort.
Doing this when the temperature is below freezing does not make the job any easier. On the plus side, you can do the job without breaking into a sweat...
It actually depends on what axle you have in your truck. The 10.25" sterling axle doesn't require the removal of the axles, but some older Dana axles do. What year is your truck?
