Iradic 4X4
My Gf's explorer has the All wheel drive and can be shifted in to 4X4, on the dash. She was driving and it bucked and shifted into 4X4 and attempted to shift to low, while in motion. Then he father took it for a drive and it did the same thing and at the same time the speedometer jumped up to 85 MPH.
The dealer cant look at it untill late next week, any help would be great.

With the shift motor unplugged, the shift motor can't shift it into low. If unplugging the shift motor resolves the problem, then you can look at the wiring to the shift motor to figure out why it's getting power when it shouldn't be. If it still tries to shift into low, then something is wrong in the t-case.

I have a 2004 Explorer with either the same or a similar problem. My 4wd seems to engage when starting and turning from a stop, and especially while doing a u-turn. It engages and almost stops the vehicle in the middle of the road! It went in for service on this issue. They changed the abs speed sensor. It seemed better for a short time, but in this last week, the problem is back. It will be back in the service dept tomorrow. Good luck with yours.
