Clutch troubles!!

The other day I went to take off in my truck (97 F-150 4.2 2wd) and noticed that the shifter moved easier than normal. Everything went fine for the next two days. Then, I went out to warm it up before leaving the fourth day and the pedal seemed to go down almost to the floor with little effort. I tried to go through the gears with the clutch to the floor now and the shifter was stiff moving, but I managed. It would go into gear and shift ok, if I put the clutch completely to the floor but would engage about 2 inches up from bottom. I checked the fluid level in my cylinder and noticed it to be low, but not completely empty. Today, I went out to see if anything had changed and it did. The little bit of pedal I had is no longer there. I managed to get it into nuetral and tried to feed it a gear. Nothing! I`m leaning towards a hydrolic problem, but was wondering if anyone had a problem similar or might have some good ol` knowledge that I lack here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!undefined

The most common problem is a leaking slave cylinder. The fluid leaks out and air gets sucked in. When that happens the clutch won't disengage and you can't get it into gear. Usually you can see a bit of a stain or leak at the front of the bellhousing. The slave cylinder is in inside the bellhousing. The transmission has to be removed to replace it.

Today I had a chance to crawl under my truck and take a little better look. There is some fluid running off the front side of the bell housing. I think you might have solved the mystery. Sounds like a slave cylinder! I think a new clutch kit might be in order too, as long as it`s going to be apart! Thanks for your reply! Brian
