Thanks for responses, Taking the truck in tommorrow. Wondering about how mis-repositioning the pump can affect flow and where to get specs on cfm or whatever the fluid flow is measured in? Garth
I talked to a buddy and he said that the flow rate should be somewhere in the range of 2-3 qts per minute if you have a good pump. An easy test is to unplug the return line from the cooler of the supply line to the cooler and have some one start it and time it for one minute and measure the volume of fluid that was pumped out (this is how he told me to do it and he has been doing this for 20 years seems like there is a more advanced way) Was that measurement before or after the cooler.
CLK, Temp measurement on pan (some trucks have it other places, I learned). OR-Do you suspect there could be a difference between flow rate before and after new cooler or radiator part of system. Hope I can get flow meter test done at all points. Heck! I hope it is your external bypass idea! Test tommorrow, back with info, I hope. Thanks again, Garth
An easy sheck to see if you have the bypass is there should be a tube that goes between the two cooler lines at the transmission, if there is buy another one and replace it before doing anything else. If you don't have one check the flow rate pre cooler and after cooler, If they didn't properly flush the cooling system there could be a restriction in there, a slight possibility. You can put the temp sender in the pan or in the plug hole in the side of the tranny in front of the shift lever. Either will work fine. Depending on the new cooler it may not have the cooling capacity depending on the type the put in, compared to the old style.
I took the AAMCO owner for a long ride and he says something isn't right (temp rises with speed in his words). They are going to look at it with the camper off this Monday.
CLK- after looking for an external bypass I think there isn't one. I did check the fluid level. Hadn't checked it since two different AAMCO techs did. I didn't start the engine and found fluid at least a 1/4" onto the wire part of the stick. I started the engine and cycled through the gears per owners manual. The level is way over cold mark and even over hot as far as I can tell. It sure seems hard to read compared to the oil dipstick. There are also tiny bubbles in the fluid. I am hoping overfilling could be the "easy fix". I will posts results. Thanks all for your concern and info, Garth
Thanks for trying to help me CLK. I am embarrassed that I didn't check the fluid level sooner. I will never trust someone else to check my fluid levels again. I will post whether lowering the level works. Garth
