Diesel question

I have a 97 f-350 6L dump truck with a diesel engine. I continnually blow fuel pumps, (the top right off) it's been to the dealer every year for the last 3 and they put a new pump in and the following year it blows. They cannot seem to find out what is wrong. Last week I brought it to a regular diesel truck shop and they put a new pump in last week and it blew this week. They "can't seem to figure it out." Any ideas, can anyone help?

Thanks,

Bill

Is this a mechanical failure of the pump or is there just too much pressure built up until it blows the cover off? This sounds more like a 7.3 liter diesel question. And being a novice to diesels myself, I am no expert. But I'd study the diesel fuel system and pressure regulation components and how they interact with each other. There's got to be a regulator somewhere. If it's in the pump, then I doubt you'd see repeat offenses. So it's got to be down stream. Some pressure regulators are adjustable. If the regulator is working fine on a test bench, then I'd figure that there's restriction in the bypass from the regulator back to the fuel cell. But that's a theory that there's too much pressure build up on the pressure side of the pump. Could water in the fuel cause too much pressure build up in the pump? Is it possible that a previous truck owner may have modified the fuel system for more pressure for performance gains?

there might be not enought volts going to the pump, or to much. not sure the exact number of volts the pump needs. check the volts to the pump, or even the amps.
