HI !! I`m New Here :)

Hello everyone . Wanted to introduce myself , my name is Jeff and I just bought my first Ford 4x4 . I`ve owned a few 70`s 2wd`s before and loved em` . I just bought a 1980 F250 Ranger XLT Camp. Special . Original owner truck with 40,000 miles on her . 400M , C6 , 208 Tcase and what I THINK is a D60 rear ?? Sure looks like one ! A question on the front axle , a friend says its a straight axle , but I dont think so , its different than a 79 front axle 4x4 . Is this a D44 cleverably disgiused ? What is the proper name for that new style (in 1980) axle ? I know the truck is stock but it sure sits high and I like that . Anyways , I cant wait to start fiddling with it , its pretty cool for an 80` Thanks

Jeff

PS One tiny additional question , when did the Highboy Ford`s end ?

HI !! I`m New Here :)

your front axel is called a twin traction beam, or ttb. it has its good points and its bad points just like everything else. it should be a dana 44 center section.

HI !! I`m New Here :)

I'm not positive on this, but I think '76 may have been the last year for the "Highboy". I also think they were only on the F-2 & 350's.

HI !! I`m New Here :)

The highboy's were only F-250, and they stopped making them midway through the '77 model year. So you can find a '77 4x4 F-250 that is a highboy, and also one that is not.

I *believe* that the highboy's all had FE engines. Maybe someone who knows for sure can put their two cents in.
