I got a 1970 F-100 with a factory 302 2bbl. The thing idles perfect and fires up everytime no problem. Fired it up this morning at 20 degrees and it ran perfect. The problem is two things. First off it has a bad lifter tick, so I figure I need to replace them. The second thing Im not so sure about. It blows black smoke like a freightrain lol. Its not really oily smoke either. It does it when it starts and until it cuts off, no matter how long i run it. I was thinking vlave stem seals maybe? The truck hasnt many miles on it and was never run hard at all. It sit for a good while probably close to a year im guessing. I just need to get it fixed soon because its a great lil truck and actually has plently of power for what it has, even spins the tires pretty good lol Any help or ideas would be appreciated
First thing I would do is compression check on the motor and see what all 8 cylinders are doing.
Second, Blueish color smoke= burning oil, White smoke(steam)= water (blown head gasket or major condensation), Black smoke= too much fuel. You are running extremly rich if you constantly have black smoke pouring out the tail pipe.
P.S. What year Mustang do you have? Mine is a 1970.
