On my 1984 F150, there is a consistent squeak. It is on then off. It varies with vehicle speed. It seems to start at about 14 mph and get faster/quiter as speed increses. It seems not to have to do with the engine speed. So, would a speedo cable cause this? If so, how do i remedy this, and what if any moving parts in the driver side dash need to be lubricated? How would I access what I need to get at? This is very annoying/embarassing. Any help at all is appreciated, I realize I may be asking for a bit of a long reply. Please tell me if I am being too sketchy, thanks for reading this.
I've just finished with the same problem only, mine got worse the
longer I put it off. It ended up being my speedometer. Where the
cable goes into the head of the speedometer became worn and started squeeking with various speeds. Then one day last month the speedometer head started flying around and around.
I just exchanged the dash from another truck I had in the yard but, lubricated where the cable goes into the head really well. No problems and alot quieter. Hope this helps you out.

My truck sat at the farm for months at a time.
My squeaker ran out on the dash from the defrost vent on I 20 near Tyler Texas. He wiggled his whiskers at me and I slapped him out the open drivers window.
