One of my good friends and I are going to be starting a workout routine soon. It will be a 4 day workout with one day of rest. I'm trying to remember the workout we did in high school, but I can't remember. I know we had arms, cardio, legs, and i think upper body, but not sure on that. Being on a college campus, we have access to almost any type of machine. i was wondering what kind of routines/lifts others out there were doing, and we will probably piece some of that together. Trying to get in shape, I have gained the freshman 10 already and we aren't through but just 1/2 of the year.
I work out 3 days a week, be careful with four or you might over do it. if you can't keep up the same reps at the same weights you should slow down. I usually do some bench press 3-4 sets, dumb bell press 3-4 sets, curls 3-4 sets (do both arms at the same time so they don't get rest) , curls with a short dumbell with my hands on top 2-3 sets, for abs I get a medacine ball or whatever they're called (10lb basketball) and like balance on my butt with my feet and shoulders off the floor, and have someone throw it to me, and touch the ground on either side of me like 6 times, then throw it back, and do that like 10-20 times then rest, sit down and let my arm hand staight and do curls 1-2sets, and a whole bunch of other stuff I work in on occassion,
I put this routine together by just allot of trips to the gym, and with a little help from a friend who used to be a personal trainer.
when I say a 'set' I mean somthing where I max out tween 3-8reps
good luck dude, it's true you really do feel better when you work out.
I'm not going to suggest a workout routine for you. I usually just do what I think I need and don't stick to any routine. I will point out the obvious in case you didn't realize is yet. Stay away from the soda and juices in the cafeteria. It will add on the calories quickly. My second year I cut that out and was back to normal. Not that I ate super healthy or never had soda or juice (or other beverages) but that cut enough calories out of my diet that I didn't explode. Now that I 'm older I need to be a little more careful.
yeah, i remember high school working out and feeling great, but i haven't done it in a while and have let myself go, and i feel like crap again, lol. I haven't gotten big, I'm still about the size I was when I played football, it's just the muscle is going away, and the fat is moving back in. I used to lift all the time, everyday, except weekends, I would eventually like to get back that way, but i'm not going to jump straight back in it, I'm going to gradually work my way back in, don't wanna mess something up, been there done that, not going back, lol, after injurying my back in football, and then lifting weights after it "felt better" and having the pain come back, I'm not gonna push myself. I don't have anyone hounding me now to get back in shape, push myself to the limit and all, because I know i'm not ready to go back to my limit. Just looking to shed a few pounds, build a little muscle back, and be back to my old self. I hate being lazy, lol, it's nice for a while and then you realize, hey, that belly is starting to grow, and where did my arm go.
Surely at a College they must have trainers that can help you get started again. Mine was set up in 1977 and I still use it. I remember (and follow) the advice to work out on alternate days, to allow your muscles to rest. I work out Mon. Wed. and Fri AM's for 1 1/2 hours. I normaly run to the Gym (21/2 miles). Why shoud you do this? I am 72 years and still hunt (real hunting not road) fish and able to play ball with my Grandkids. What you do today will determine what you can do when you are my age. Good Luck
I'm thinking I have a routine set up now, I just gotta run it by my buddy. I think I'm gonna base it on my workouts I did in high school, it was three days of lifting, focusing on different muscle regions, and then two days of cardio. But I think we will only do one day cardio, and then the 5th day let the muscles rest
I just started working out, I do a moderate warm up of cardio then weights M/W/F and then higher intensity cardio with a long walk and stretching for cool down on T/Th. Its working pretty well, but I need to figure out how to be less lazy on the weekends
FBINA109...where'bouts in western montana? take a run down the forum list toward the bottom and find the high plains drifters forum...join the chapter....we ain't got much goin yet w/ the drifters, but this year, hopefully somethin'll work out....
Probably stating the obvious here but if you're working out on campus, is there an instructor or whatever on available who can help set something up? They might be able to suggest different machines and whatever, which can be especially useful later on if you tire of your beginning sets.
Workout routines are very subjective. For every different result desired there are several different routines. Whether you want general overall fitness, slimming down, bulking up, endurance, or burning the last ounce of fat to compete in a workd championship bodybuilding competition. Each requires a different style of workout.
For general fitness and cardio, make a list of as many different exercises that you can think of utilizing free weights and machines as well as things like jumping jacks, pull ups, sit ups, burpees (if you know what those are) then set aside the amount of time you want to workout 30 - 40 minutes depending on your level of fitness or ability. Use moderate weights and do each station for 60 seconds with a 15 second break between stations. Don't be afraid to lengthen your workout as your fitness level increases. Do that 3-4 times a week for 3 months and you will be able to run 10 miles.
I am 58. I am self employed. My partner and I do construction, mostly outside. My partner is a woman, 10 years younger. We are both in good shape because we work everyday. We work outside down to about 5 degrees. Our work involves alot of digging, moving stone etc., all by hand. It is hard work, especially in the winter with a ton of clothes on. Work has been my workout most of my life. I don't get every muscle I should but my heart gets a great workout everyday. When how much money you make depends on how much you get done, you work alot harder. If I worked in an office I would join a gym. Like FBINA109 says. What you do later depends on what you do now. When you decide to sit in a rocking chair and take life easy, you are finished. I don't think the actual routine makes alot of difference, just get moving and never stop.
Well, the key to a good workout is moderation. In my younger days I started out with 12oz curls. Now as I've been lifting a long time I alternate between 12 sets of 7oz curls or 8 sets of 24oz curls if im looking to bulk up.
I have been a power lifter for a number of years now...LOL
besides playing with my hot rods this is all I do
1-work (regular job)
2-hot rods
3-lift weights
no hunting,fishing,golf.etc...
