"NOT" the EBPV....HELP
Came home, removed the lever and rotated to both extremes and tried the engine. No change.
Here is the sequence of events.
Bought the 1997 F-350 4x4 Manual truck in Atlanta Ga saturday. Started it at 40 degrees in Atlanta saturday morning. No smoke and fired first crank. Drove it and heard a slight hissing sound when I let off the accelerator when it was cold. Oil pressure is above half way and stays there. Filter indicator shows no blockage.
Drove the truck from Atlanta to St. Louis at between 70 and 80. Averaged over 15 mpg. No problems what so ever. Sounded perfect. No hissing or any other abnormal noises.
Got up sunday morning. 16 degrees. Truck started up on third short crank. Light white smoke, which to me is normal in cold weather . After 5 minutes, no smole at all. Drove about a mile to fill up with fuel ran just like night before. Let it idle while filling, about 10 minutes. Started to drive off and all of a sudden, it acts like it has an anchor tied to it and it starts smoking like a steam engine. Pulled over and looked at filter indicator, still no movement to indicate blocked filter. Coaxed it home and parked it.
Went out Monday at 5 degrees and it started on first crank. Smoked as most do when cold. Cleared up in about 5 minutes. Tried to drive but same problem. Also, when it starts smoling there is a wheezing sound from center of engine compartment.
Tried disconnecting electrical to EBPV, no change. Tried unhooking lever from solenoid to butterfly and changing positions of the butterfly...No change. It will not accelerate past 2000 rpm's and it smokes like a fogger when you try..
What is my problem...Is it the turbo? I borrowed the 97 the Service managers mauals, since he is a client of mine, but cannot find anything to help me there either. Do I need to take it in and have the computer checked?
Thanks....
Frank
ps:
WHY DOES MY SYSTEM SHOW AN ERROR MESSAGE WHEN I TRY AND ACCESS SOME OF THE TOPICS...STARTS TO DISPLAY AND THEN CHANGES TO "ERROR..CANNOT FIND FILE" or something close..
The EBPV is not stuck, it actually has not closed or moved except when I remved the lever and checked it. I ran the engine and manually activated it and you can hear a very slight hiss, not the sound I hear when I try and accelerate.
Also, when I activate the EBPV, there is no increase in amount of smoke or struggling sounds from engine.
It has to be something totally different.
A little baffling since it ran so good on saturday and all of a sudden it started doing this on sunday.
The truck does have a cat... You are correct regarding cat problems on gas...
Will disconnect and see what happenes. The exhaust system looks newer than what would be expected on a 97 model...in my opinion..
What is the secret to reconnecting the EBPV linkage? My hands are too big to fit in those tight corners and reconnect the linkage...
Thanks
Frank
