I installed a real and I do not care about the stock one, how do I get the stock to read high enough to make the engine light go off, and if at all poss without putting in a t.
Can I just ground it all the time?
Sorry its a 1989 f250 with the 5.8
connect the wire that went to the original sender to ground (just connect it to a screw of bolt on the body or motor) and look at the guage. If it is in the middle somewhere, then you are good to go.
If the guage is pegged all the way to "HIGH" Then disconnect it and post back here for further instructions. In that case, you would need to put a resistor (available at your local radio shack) in the wire.
The other thing you can do is screw a T fitting into the hole for the sender. Then you can connect both the aftermarket and stock gauges. The light will go off, and your old gauge will still work. Use red threadlocker on the brass connections.
