Explorer Automatic Ride Control problems

I have a 97 sohc Ford explorer XLT.I had 2 new tyres put on today and turned off the ARC as per the hand book.Apparently a light in the dash should come on to show the system is off.Well on mine there was no light,so im not even sure if my ARC is working, does anybody have any ideas on how to check if its working.I dont wont to take to the dealer here in the uk because they know nothing about Ford Explorers. Also since i've had the car the rides been a bit hard, not sure if this is the tire pressures, anbody know the correct pressure's. Please help......

Thanx Mossy007

I had a 95 Windstar with the auto level ride system and when I turned the switch off I never got a light. If you changed the tires and didn't blow a ride leveling bag (if it doesn't leak now) then I wouldn't worry about it. If there was a problem with it, the front, back, or both would be almost sitting on the ground.
