8.75 inch rear axle ring?

I'm usually over in the 48-60 forum, but thought I'd post this here too and see if anyone can help. I have a 51 F1 that I want to put a 9 inch rear end under. I went to a junkyard a little over year ago and asked for a 9 inch out of a 68-72 F100. Now that it's finally being worked on, it appears to have an 8.75 inch ring gear in it. Does this sound right? The tag on it says "WDM-U" and has a "8FC-302". It has a 3.70 ratio. I have already bought a new 9 inch ring and pinion gear set, can this be installed or will it bind or even fit? I am having a hard time finding anything on the net about a Ford 8.75 inch ring, it's either 8 inch, 8.8, or 9 inch that seems to have all the info. My dad is the mechanic working on it, and has compared the old and new gears and the one is definitely a little smaller diameter. If I can't use the new 9 inch set, where can I find the smaller diameter gears? Thanks for any help, I'm close to getting a rolling chassis finished but this will hold me up until I get it figured out.

Mopar makes 8-3/4 rears - well dosen't make - but uses. (Ok dosen't use, but did long ago.)

same "chunk" design as a 9-in ford - but it taint no 9-in.

Chrysler used to but 8-3/4's behind hemi's till the went with DANA's
