'92 Ranger 4.0 erratic ideling

'92 Ranger 4.0 erratic ideling
Have a '92 Ranger with 100,000+ miles; auto trans, 4x4; has erratic ideling, sometimes difficult to power up without hiccuping. If it manages to run faster, when slowing down the erratic running/idel resumes. Could this be a bad crank or cam sensor or something else? Thanks.

First thing I would consider is to clean your throttle body. There is a thread in the technical information at the top of this forum that describes how to do it. Be sure to use "Air Intake Cleaner" and not carburetor cleaner. Also clean your Idle Air Controller (IAC) and the passage into the throttle body. Test your IAC to insure that it is operating correctly and if not replace it.
All this assumes that the truck does indeed run smoothly and there are no codes - CEL is not on.
