Can someone please explain *shift points*? Have been doing research into tuners, and shift points are always mentioned. How do they differ from stock shift points? What exactly are firm shift points.
Shift points are what RPM the tranny shifts at. You can adjust this with a tuner if you want. I run the basic performance tune, and it seems great for me.
You can also ajust the "firmness" of the tranny shifts with a tuner (I have a Diablo, don't know if others can). Since the whole dang truck is computer controlled, all you are doing is changing settings on the tranny computer.
You increase the PSI in the tranny, causing firmer, faster, harder shifts. Or you can decrease it for slower, smoother shifting. I run the basic performance tune, and it is great for me!
Want to add some comment...Once you set superchip shift point and pressure point you will feel a bit harsh in the beinging so the computer need to re learn your driving habit, say 500-1000 miles then it will be better.
Its also help tranny lives longer!!!
The shift points are the speed the truck will shift at wide open throttle(WOT) only. I have the superchip tuner and the first program I installed I used the superchip setting. The truck shifted at almost 40 mph in 1st and hit the rev limiter in 2nd. I felt that this was a little to much RPMs and lowered the 1st shift by 5 mph and the 2nd shift by 10 mph.
