Clutch question

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Sep-02 AT 12:48 PM (EST)]clutch question

I have a 1986 302 that was originally bolted to an AOD.
My new transmission is from a 1978 1/2 ton Ford truck NP435 I think.
I need a "fly wheel" for a manual 302 prolly from the same year with the same engine size.
The question I have is: If I buy a clutch assembly for a 1978 1/2 4x4 with the 351 mod(302 is not available from autozone my guess is it wasnt an option in that truck) will it work with the fly wheel Im hunting for?

I think it will but no one I am buying the assmebly from will commit and say yes this will work together. and its $129 so I dont want to buy it without being pretty sure that it will work.

Thanks in adavance

the flywheel has to come out of an 84 or erlier 302. When Ford switched to the 5.0 the balance changed.

For the clutch you will need one for the Windsor motor. I am pretty sure the clutch for the 351/400 mod is a 12" and the windsor takes a 10" and 11" clutch. Make sure you use the 11" for duribility. I am also pretty sure the input size and spline count are the same for early and later model np435's. Since you already have the tranny it will be a simple matter of measuring to verify.

84 Bronco 351HO/C-6/208/10.25 Rear/D44TTB Soon to have D60 Front/NP435 Wait, it does have the NP435 now!
86 F250 351HO/C6/10.25 Soon to have a front axle and the ZF tranny

Clutch question

Someone mentioned that there might be an issue with the pilot bearing. Should I have any concerns about that or should it be fine?

I think brokebronco got it backwards. You have a later (86) motor so you need the later model/balance flywheel. I would guess what you have planned will work. If it doesn't, just take it back to the store.

Clutch question

I have an 85 F-150 that i pulled a 300 Inline 6 out of and installed an older 400 V8, when I bought the clutch set, i had to go back to the store twice to get the right combination of parts, in the first kit, the clutch disk was right, but the pressure plate and throw-out bearing were wrong, then i got the right throw-out bearing but the wrong pressure plate, finally got all the right parts, but they were from 3 different clutch kits. I hope your luck is better than mine.
