Have an 86 F-150 Ext Cab and want to put in some speakers 6" in the walls behind the front seats. Has anyone taken these panels off before and is there some room behind these panels? Maybe 2" max? Thnx
Haven't seen too many trucks where the panels survived but in the corners under the seatbelt there is a very deep space. I was lookin to put some 6x9 s back there and they barely fit. I never did it b/c old man winter showed up (I hate him.) Should work, but I wouldn't trust that panel to hold the weight...
Never tried to make them fit, but I'm sure if you modified them they could (if they don't just slide in anyways.) I was just gonna get a piece of fiberglass sheet that you would use in a mudroom or a shower room. I put some up in my basement on the walls around my sink and it was pretty flexible. Also I think I can paint it.
My 85 F-250 X-cab has 6x9's mounted in the walls behind the seats. They sit about level with the backseat, it looks pretty clean. Installed by the PO so I couldn't tell you if any metal was removed or if the speakers are special somehow. Sounds pretty nice though.
Another good place for 6x9's is in the door panels just under the armrest. I did that with my old 83 F-100 reg. cab. From a technical standpoint it's probably not a very good place, but hey, more speakers is more sound to me. Thats 5 speakers if you do the two 6" speakers in the front of the door and one in the dash as well .
What's with this related links BS? I'm getting a little tired of all the adds being shoved at me on this site lately. At least they got rid of the one under each first post.
lol i have 2x12 inch Audio Bahn behind my seat, reg cab, they fit alright, they are kinda in a slant with the back of the seat, 2x 4.5 inch tweeters in the door and 1 6x9 in the dash
A nice 1/2" piece of a/c plywood (sanded, stained and varnished) cut to fit will add durability, custom look, and more options for mounting speakers. Cheaper than other alternatives too.
