Don't buy Ox Lockers. The concept is great but the company has always been crap. Now they are bankrupt and liquidating their facilities which means if you buy one and anything ever breaks there's no way to get a replacement or customer service. The best we can hope for is that some other company will start production on the design and offer better service.

I have heard this from MANY folks.

There are plenty of other lockers out there that work flawlessly.....they are just too damned expensive for most people.

Well the thing I REALLY like about OX is you have the least amount of junk unvolved which means less chance of failure. With ARB's you have so much to go wrong from compressors to seals to airlines and solenoids. Electrac is still dependant on an electric solenoid which can fail whenever it feels like it. Don't get me wrong, I still think both these companies make a GREAT locker and I'm going to be using ARBs but the simplicity of the OX locker was a definite plus. I wish someone else would step up with a similar design.

Speaking of which, the Electrac can be manually locked if the solenoid fails. This makes me wonder if they could design a cable operated actuator to replace the electric unit. If so that would be da bomb you!

To recap...in case you forgot already...

You knwo anything is bad for off-roading when Petersen's Magazine STRONGLY advises against it. But Im second hand information, that makes it hear-say, so take it as you want....

Edit: Are they having a sale on Ox's? How much were they and how much are they now?

Edit #2: You know how random words are highlighted like Engine, Bolt, and--what the hell-MAGAZINE???

Hmmm... a cable-operated Electrac... That's an idea! Maybe they would call it the Cabletrac ?? Would be nice if they attatched a lower price to the cable operated version too. I'd like to buy one .

the reason I was looking at getting one is that 4 wheel parts has a special going. i'm going to change my gears from 3.50 to 4.88 and they have a package deal of; f&r ring & pinions, master install kits, the ox locker with diff cover and cable for $878. i'm not that concerned about them going out of business because i would imagine another company would end up buying them up. also if something should happen to break i feel pretty confident that i or someone i know could fix it.

Buy it if you like. You asked a question and you were warned so if it goes TU on you I'll be the first to say "told you so".

I know they're offering sales because they got SCREWED by Ox when they went out of business and now they're stuck with a ton of inventory (ironic how Kharma finally came back on 4WP ). But look again, you're not getting 2 R&P's for that price. The set with the pair is $1800.

Man, I'm not sure what would be worse, buying the ox locker or buying from 4WP...

i did look again and you're wrong it is $878, the $1800 package is for two complete sets. i do appreciate your guys response and opinions and are duely noted. i've had nothing but good luck with 4wp but will definitely ask them about the ox company and see what they say about them going out of business before i buy.

I'd say read the fine print but it's not even really fine. You get 2 sets of install kits with the $878 package, not 2 R&P sets.

OX LOCKER PACKAGES

#1 $878.99

* 1 Free Cable
* 1 Free Genuine Gear Ring & Pinion
* 1 Ox Locker
* 2 Master Install Kits (all bearings & Seals)
* 1 Forged Diff Cover[
I still wonder why the hell people come on here and ask questions about stuff like this when they've already made up their mind and will do nothing but argue about it. If you already know them to be so great and know you can fix it why are you asking us?? Yes, call 4 Wheel Parts. They're not sitting on $500,000 worth of OX inventory that they're now stuck with or anythinging. I'm sure they'll give you up front and honest facts.

My question is why do you need 2 install kits?
