"OMG! I just sat through the painful long time my dial up ISP takes to download your cost breakdown. Watching the numbers not so slowly rise. You may have passed my up buddy."
At this time, I wish to withdraw my earlier statement from the official FTE record. I've done a pretty good job of keeping reciepts. I do not keep the sub $10 reciepts for consumables so they aren't in my figures at all yet. I don't count tool purchases, gas and electric bills, The Supernats is not an official business expense. I haven't walked out to the garage and and looked at the truck for things I may have forgotten about. I did not double count anything I bought more than once, and sold attempt one at a loss. I did not count any travel expense to go get the truck on the East coast. I have some parts truck purchases yet to add.
Niolon warned me and warned me to never add it all up.
There's alot of things that you could say about the special world George has created on his pages called Earl's World. I like it. I like the self deprecating tone, the gentle kidding, and occasional hilarious character that pepper the adventure. I'm a big fan of Mr. Pipe.
Whether George is explaining the Euler elastic buckling load or helping with "tailpipe" carburetor tips, there is always something solid and useful in the information. It is never condescending. It is always offered with humility and humor. I'm glad Earl is back.

Exactly so, Peter. I was also impressed that George not only admits mistakes, but almost seems to revel in the mistakes; always regards them as lessons learned.
I don't lose my cool when I ***** up, but I'm never as philosophical as George, just a little weary. George just seems to refocus better when he hits a snag like a leaking steering box, or a shot crank.

I just had to take my wife to the hospital for an emergency hernia operation due to extreme laughter for more than an hour. Guess I shouldn't let her read over my shoulder when I'm cruising the board.
Gotta go out to the garage now and finish pulling hammers out of the walls so I can fix holes in the drywall. Fergie, can you give me any tips on welding drywall patches?
I've enjoyed Earl's World, too. I've found it helpful on countless occasions. It's interesting how my truck restoration has differed from my Dad's restoration of his '47 Ford. I use the internet and FTE almost exclusively to seek advice and problem solve. Dad went to the library or his network of car buddies. Of course, the internet wasn't the same even a mere five years ago but it's obvious who is more comfortable with computers.
"You know, I'm no slouch when it comes to building web sites."
"Don't sell yourself short, Kevin. You're a tremendous slouch!"
George,
Welcome Back! :
I have been away myself attending to family matters and when I get back I see that you and Earl and Kai have all returned. What a pleasant surprise. I always enjoy visiting "Earl's World" even though I am a thousand miles away. Himmel and the others have said all of the eloquent stuff, so I'll just say welcome back and you have been truly missed.
"My wife would kill me if she ever saw that list."
I was shocked when I added mine up last night after about five years on buying stuff. I can only wonder how my wife would react to the total. And it is my intent to die still wondering how she would react.
You have been missed dearly. We've been overrun by the darksiders. They;re bringing in all kinds of things including lumber monkeys. I got me a monkey wrench but no lumber monks yet !
Seriously, many times I use Earl's world as a technical resource. Your pictures are always first rate: many angles, views and distance from the subject. Your wit and willingness to give yourself a poke in the eye when needed and the ability to poke 'fenders and get away with it is classic. I think your stuff is good enough to be published. Then I can do with yours like I did with John's " Oh yeah, I know him. He's on FTE with me. Yes, this guy who wrote this in the book"
Welcome back....and remember if it ain't original, it's wrong !
