So guys (and gals) tell me......am I insane for wanting to spend $175 of my hard earned cash on a brank new Cobra 148 CB? For those who don't know, the 148 has Single Side Band, and a few other things that I find cool. There's not even anything wrong with my current radio (Cobra 25 NW ST) other than the fact that the meter light is burned out. Today I was only gettin out about 3 miles (which is probably fairly descent) but I know that with SSB I wouldn't have any problems. I know that my current one can be tuned to get out better, but nothing (in my mind anyways) compares to SSB. So what's everybody think? Should I save my $$$ or spend it? Is it worth the "WOW" factor?
Also, what does everyone like for 6"x8"s? I have been thinking about upgrading those for awhile too. I will most likely not run them from my amp (just from the HU). I'm not looking for tremendous bass either, that's what my subs are for
Now on to the subject at hand! If you feel that you really want the CB, I'd go for it. And if anyone asks why you got a new one, your "the bulb is burned out" excuse quiets them. Especially since most people won't be able to tell the difference between your current CB and the new one. Would I spend that kind of money on a CB? Only if I did a lot of cross country driving and I actually knew someone who has a radio that they keep turned on.
For your 6X8 question, Pioneer seems to be a decent quality. I'm running some cheap Pyramid 2-ways but I have absolutely no complaints with them.
Does anyone on 11-meters even USE sideband? I'd save your $175, and get a cheaper Cobra or Midland CB. but that's just me.
Though I can't say much I'm wanting to spend $325 on a Kenwood V7A 2 meter/440 rig. Probably will spend about $100 on a Diamond or Antenna Specialists antenna. On top of just spending roughly $110 for an XM Commander for my truck.
