I've got an 83 f150 XLT 4WD, with 351m. I pulled up in the drive way and got out. Didn't get back in it for a couple of weeks. Tried to crank it, but no go. I checked and seen it wasn't firing. I have replaced the dist. cap, rotor, coil, coil wire, crankshaft sensor, brain on the fender well, igniton switch on the steering wheel, I even changed the spark plugs and still can't get any fire. I'm getting 12 volts to the coil. I have run out of ideas, anyone else have any? i would love to hear them, please.....getting desperate...thanks
Are you getting any fire OUT of the coil? I've heard of replacing coils only to get a bad coil. Follow the path of fire. If you have juice going in, but none coming out there is a problem with the coil.
Thanks, I'm glad I found this place. First off, let me correct myself, my ohm meter has gone out, so all i have is this 12volt tester with the light in it...so i don't really know if the coil is getting 12 volts, but the light lights up on both sides, with the key on. There is no spark coming from the coil. I have tried 3 of them, one old one, no spark, then went and bought a new one, no spark, so I thought maybe the new one was bad, so i took it back and got another one, still, no spark....(maybe they had a run on bad ones, i don't know)......I can't find anywhere it says if its an EEC111 or not, but it looks alot like it..(I went to the library and looked it up in the chilton book..)They wouldn't let me leave with the book....grin
anyway, any suggestion would be really appricated at this point, I have no idea what to do next.....thanks
A common problem is the stator assembly inside the distributor.
Also, the coil should only have power on the + side of the coli with the key on unless the stator is closed(Much like the old points ignition system being closed)
Are the wires connected properly on the coil ?
If you can read wiring diagrams I have one for either ignition.
I would also recommend getting a shop manual for your truck.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Sep-02 AT 08:49 AM (EST)]Thanks, no, I just replaced the distributor cap and the round rotor inside..Thanks anyway, but, I have a couple of wiring diagrams already, i copied them out of the chilton book at the library. thanks again....
