How do I determine front differential type?

I am trying to determine if the front axle on my 1997 F350 4x4 has a limited slip differential. The ford axle code for my vehicle is 39 (non-slip) but this indicates the type for the rear axle only, doesn't it? Does anyone know what I need to determine the type of front axle that I have?

Thanks,
Pieter Ditmars

I have never heard of a l/s in the front of one of these rigs from the factory. I think the code on the front would have a "L" in it near the gear ratio numbers.

As far as I know, we all have open diff's in the front.

Through the 80's and early 90's Ford did offer a limited slip front(I have seen a 94.5 PSD truck with a LS front and rear.) A rear limited slip is denoted by the axle code being a letter and a number(C9 instead of 39), and a front is denoted by the axle code having a 2 tacked on the end(so C92 would indicate a L/S 3.55 geared Sterling out back, and a limited slip front.)
This is not a very common option, but, they are out there.
