i have a 2004 mountaineer and when you drive it, and it shifts, it almost seems to let off before it shifts and goes back on the gas after it shifts. as well as there is a delay when you step on the gas, i can have it running in park and nail it and let off quick and i can have my foot off the gas by the time the tach moves
Has anyone experienced either of these with their mountaineer ever?
this is why me and my father have used older fords but my mom HAS to have a new car "i'm not going to drive a used car that i always have to have you fix it" -mother
my 2004 brand new does the same type of shift that you describe. i thought that this was the normal shift pattern for that trans. i have to go pick up my tags tonight and now im going to ask one of the techs. i wonder if this is caused by the problems described in the recall some people on the forum are talking about.
I have an 04 XLT exporer and mine does the same thing. What I noticed is you have something like a throttle position sensor on your gas pedal. The throttle body isn't opened by a cable like on older cars is opened by a small electric motor. When you step on the gas the electric moter openes the throttle. It just takes alittle while to get used to it. As for the shifting I think it's normal. Every new explorer I've been in does the same thing.
Its called drive by wire ,an there have been some failures. Its kinda scary when you pull out in to traffic and feel the delay. If it gets worse take it in.Ford knows about it.
