Was on my way to pick up some new doors for my truck when I lost heat inside the cab, temp gauge spiked and finally lost fluid out the radiator. It was -8 degrees out side, 50+mile trip...I was stuck in the middle of no where...luckily coasted to the nearest Kwik Trip.
Found that it was indeed leaking out the seams of the radiator. Change the radiator last night (also scored myself a new fan shroud and pulled a 3G 130amp alt for future swap). Anyway, got the rad put in and shroud put on everything hooked up. Took it out for a test drive. warmed up real nice, then lost cabin heat and then the temp gauge started to drop...puzzled! Do I need a new T-stat? I have a 190 in there right now that is only 2-3 years old. Thinking about going to a 205. Any ideas??
I always install a new fail safe stat when I work on any coolant system. It's a cheap item but one that can cost you alot. Cheap insurance so swap it in a new one.

Picked up all the necessaries last night (195 T-stat). Will out it in tonight and burp the system. Hopefully that's the problem. THANX!
are you sure you didn't have a airlock and underfill the system to the point that when the t-stat opened the level went down to low to provide heat . Always check your t-stat when doing these things, even new ones before you put them in they don't all work.

New stat in...no leaks...and heats up really well now!
I know this is obvious but you didn't mention it,
Did you test the radiator fluid for proper anti-freeze mixture?
It sounds a lot like you had an ice blockage somewhere, and if you don't correct the antifreeze mixture you will be buying another radiator or worse a whole block. Just because it's green doesn't meen it's good to -8 deg.

Mix was good...just had to replace the T-stat and make sure there were no air pockets. I've been driving it since and no problems.
