Noisy 7.3
I just got a 2000 F350 XLT Powerstroke, this is my 3rd powerstroke and my dad has had 4, his newest is a 2000 model. My question is why is it so noisy in the cab? The engine noise is obnoxious does anyone have any suggestions. My dads 2000 is the same way.

Were the other trucks newer or older? My friends 99' is quieter than my 97', and the 04 is even quieter. Maybe they scimped on insulation in that year? Don't have a 00' to compare them with though. You can buy insulation pads to put in the floorboard, behind the dash, in the doors, etc... They sell stuff like that at audio shops.

The other trucks were older. Outside the engine does sound quieter but in the cab it is noisy. All the trucks are manual trannys, maybe the 6 speed is a noisy tranny. I am going to to insulate the firewall and around where the stick comes through the floor. I didnt know if anyone had some tips that might help. I wondered if it may have something to do with the way the tranny was mounted or needed some rubber bushings.

Factory exhaust, although I am getting 4" put on. I will take a look at the cab mounts. It isnt too bad until about 2300 rpms and then it get loud in the cab. Im afraid it might be worse with the 4" exhaust. I was also told it was probably resonence(sp).

my 02 is pretty quiet i the cab, until the cold snap last week and then it sounded like a jet engine inside, but it is quiet again, thank goodness.

I have a 99 and it was good and quiet when i got it. But now that i have stacks and the kwik filter she alot louder now. I'm used to it now. My dad recently bought a 2000 sd diesel. Now when i get in his its so quiet i can't believe it. I like my mods though so i won't change a thing!! I might try that suond proofing in the spring but who knows. I want my chip first!!
