replace the front brake pads on a 92 f150 4x4. mine went out a few days ago so all i got is this nice grinding noise constantly coming from my brakes. i have a haynes repair manual and i read through the steps on how to replace them and they make it seem more difficult then what i thought. is it easy enough i can do it myself ? or is it gonna be one of them things you'd rather pay some mechanic to do? i really dont wanna go with choice 2 cuz i need my truck everyday because i work and have no other transportation. thanks
Nah, it's not too hard. Get the 4wd hub tool from the autoparts store and a pair of snap ring pliers and you'll be in business . The Haynes manual directions are pretty easy to follow. Once you get working on it, it won't seem so complicated. Take one side apart at a time, so you have something to refer to when you go to put it back together if you get confused.
If Im not mistaken you have a quad piston caliper, if so you will need to locate a quad piston caliper collapser if not you will have to try the old pad and flat head screw driver trick. Im not quite sure, but either way it really isnt that bad just pay attention to what your doing, and buy a chilton its a little more better. Also buddy I reckon you probably messed up the rotors, you should probbably save yourself the headache and replace them or see if they can be turned. Mike them rotors first and if they can be cut cut em.
