I own a 1999 F250 4x4 light duyt. Over the past couple of weeks the gearshift has started slipping over. When it is in park it is between the reverse and park and as well with drive it is all the way over on 2??If anyone could shed the light in woman term it would be greatly appreciated....Miss Alpo
I think I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure.
When the transmission is in park, the indicator is between P and R, and when the transmission is in drive, the indicator is on the 2.
If that's the case, I don't think it would be sloppy linkage because the slop would work both ways. Meaning that when the indicator is in P, the transmission would be in reverse.
As SoCal said, the rod adjustment may need to be tweaked. Not sure what it looks like on your truck, but on my old Ford, it's a long groove with a nut/bolt that gets adjusted up and down
On my dodge, there's a spline shaft on the transmission that the linkage lever connects to. The bolt on the lever came loose a few times and caused this exact problem.
Gotcha. Still, the indicator is always to the right of where it should be, correct?
I'm not sure exactly what the setup on that truck is, but there's gotta be some sort of linkage adjustment. I'd follow the cable from the shifter to the tranny and you should find it.
