Need help... What's the difference?

What is the difference between the intakes on an EFI 302 in a car and an EFI intake in a truck. I know the trucks intake has rectangle holes and the plenum is taller and the intake on the car has circlular holes that are staggered and the plenum is shorter. For example, compare an F-150's intake and plenum to a mustangs intake and plenum, they are way different. A friend of mine is trying to get me to buy off on the idea that you can throw a mustang motor into an F-150 and get the same amount of torque and horsepower as you can get off a high rise intake like that in the truck. If he's right, why are the two different, and I can't imagine it's only because the truck has more room to have the high intake. Ford had to have a distinct reason for using (and still is using) two different intakes and plenums on the two types of vehicles.
If anyone has any info about this and maybe some hard facts to prove the difference or likenesses, I would most appreciate it. I always thought the trucks intake provided more torque at lower RPM's than the mustang because you would want more torque in a mustang at higher RPM's? Am I close?
